Oprah - Eckhart Tolle - A New Earth, discussions all over the Community here. WHAT IS THE EGO? IS IT BAD? being discussed in the Living Metaphysics pod/Group., I just posted there a comparison of my views with Tolle's, in which I radically disagree with what I believe his view to be, but I really recommend reading the whole thread.

Sorry to be lazy and have you click a link and read a first draft, but this is a hot topic and a long post, and I will edit later !!!!

The ego is a subject that has been discussed endlessly in lots of spiritual literature, and maybe there is nothing more to be said, but hey, he has his view, and I have mine, and that's what's happening here and now, so if you would like to read on the topic, read away. And let me know what you think.

I am sure I will have more to say about Ego sometime later. Can't shut us writers up.

Bottom line: I think mistaken ideas of what the ego is, have led to a lot of human suffering. My aim is to prevent and alleviate some of that suffering.

the root of the problem (for humanity) ?

only a handful of people know what Consciousness is, or are even interested in examining what it may be.

it goes further than ego, it is about the Mind itself.

unknown territory even though we spend our entire lives there.

Thanks for sharing !    IF I get a glimmer of what you mean, I agree it is true that most people are not interested in examining the mind or consciousness, even though they are it and are in it, all the time. But from my perspective, that's God's choice because even though they are not aware of being portions and expressions of God in subtance and in action, they still ARE, so we needn't judge it.

In my view, in no way does it prevent them from Realizing Who They Are at any time. It's my belief that Realization does not require being a sophisticated thinker with all the mind-related, consciousness-related jargon. Waking Up can come to the shepherder in Mongolia, not just Western or Eastern intellectuals.

That's what I woke up today Realizing: While there are ways of using the mind that contribute more to our quality of life, to the world we want, nonetheless, there is nothing that is not-God, and in a subtle way I think maybe Tolle is calling ego as he defines it, as not-God. Gotta get rid of it in order to be really “spiritual.”

But in my perspective, whatever is, whatever is going on, is God's choice at that time, because everything is God in substance and in action. And of course, even what Tolle is saying is in that category !!! :)

So the ISSUE is not whether those “useless repetitive thoughts” are ego, or whether they prevent spiritual progress, or are somehow not-God. The issue is only (but a big issue) whether they are contributory to the life we choose for ourselves and our world, and if not, we as portions of God, can change them by various means (some of which he describes.)

For those who have read my Update and Further Update blog entries, I add that the above general realizations are what  became not just understandings but much more fully integrated into the constant functioning and substance of my bio-electrical, bio-chemical, cellular, mental, emotional, and auric selves, and my astral plane self, during the February Quantum Leap. EVEN WHAT I DON'T LIKE IS NOT NOT-GOD, AND EVEN MY REGARDING IT AS NOT-GOD, IS GOD.  The whole issue collapses and becomes simply :OK, what do I choose? What do I, God as I, choose to create next, for me, for the world as I experience it?

(And the complexity is that when I choose a world-as-I-experience it, that choice enables others, affects others, making it easier for them to choose that world, too. Because, delight delight, we are only One Being in many portions.)

I think the best way to loose ego is to embrace love.

Thanks Wanderer7 and Michele, for your comments and thoughts. If the ego itself (however defined) is embraced with Love, it transmutes into something awesomely useful and beautiful, thass my view.

I just now posted my current thinking on this topic of Ego and Tolle in this post, and the one just earlier to it is highly relevant, too. And the whole thread, indeed !!!

My thinking is still evolving, and I am still writing my long paper on the subject…..

More views welcome !!!!
